The World Boxing Council has approved Top Rank’s request to have an 80/20 purse split for WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury’s defence against interim title holder Dillian Whyte.

THE WBC ruling – reported first by Chris McKenna of the Daily Star – was also subject to a purse bid date of January 11 if both parties cannot come to an agreement before then.

Top Rank’s Carl Moretti had previously called for an 80/20 split in Fury’s favour, despite the usual 55/45 split used by the WBC for a bout between its champion and interim title holder.

Fury was last in action with an epic 11th round KO of Deontay Wilder in their trilogy bout back in October – a war which saw five collective knockdowns in Las Vegas.

Interim champion Whyte was last in action in March, stopping Alexander Povetkin four rounds into their Gibraltar rematch.
