Norwich closing in on Brandon Williams

According to Sky Sports News, Norwich could be set to make their ninth senior signing of the summer as they line up a loan move for Manchester United’s left-back Brandon Williams.

The Canaries, who fell to an opening day defeat to Liverpool, are thought to be keen to provide competition and backup to current left-back Dimitrios Giannoulis. Williams can also cover right-back, but is less likely to be needed there, where Sam Byram provides competent cover to star man Max Aarons.

Southampton were thought to hold an interest in the full-back, but have since signed Tino Livramento as defensive cover, so are seemingly out of the race.

The final puzzle piece?

Norwich have already spent an impressive 54 million pounds this summer on seven recruits [as per Transfermarkt], while highly-rated Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour has also joined the club on loan for the upcoming season.

And even though their finances have been aided by the sale of Emiliano Buendia to Aston Villa (for around 33 million pounds), it seems as though the Carrow Road coffers could be nearing empty.

As a final addition, however, they may take advantage of the Premier League rule that allows sides to have two domestic loanees in their squad, with currently just Gilmour fitting that criteria.

This means that Norwich could, in theory, make a move for Williams their final business of the window, although there is the possibility that Manchester United decide to keep hold of their young talent, depending on how their fullback situation develops.
