Eric Bailly has confirmed that the Manchester United squad are fully behind manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Solskjaer has not had an easy ride as Man Utd manager, with the club enduring mixed fortunes during his tenure. He has overseen some big wins, but also come in for criticism for some bad results.

There had been some pressure on Solskjaer towards the start of the season after United lost 6-1 to Tottenham. More recently, they were on the receiving end of a shock 2-1 loss to Istanbul Basaksehir.

They made up for that by beating the Turkish side in their next meeting. Indeed, that victory was part of a four-game winning run they are currently on, which has eased the pressure on the manager somewhat.

Ed Woodward has already publicly backed Solskjaer, and now one of his players has as well.

Bailly – who has not featured since October – insists his manager has a perfect understanding of his squad.

The defender told Mundo Deportivo: “We have learned how to overcome adversity because the dressing room is with Solskjaer.

“He is a close guy who has a good relationship with everyone and understands the football player’s codes. He knows when one is not well and he has added a lot of value since he came.”

Bailly urges United to look to future

Bailly, 26, has won three trophies with United since joining them in 2016 – the EFL Cup, Community Shield and Europa League.

However, the Premier League title – something they used to win regularly – has evaded them ever since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013. They have also not won the Champions League since 2008.

Bailly, though, believes United can get back to the glory days in the long run.

“United compete against their own past,” said the Ivory Coast international. “A team used to winning the Premier or even the Champions League. And it’s been down for too long.

“But now is not the time to look back but to the future and try to turn things around because there is plenty of talent.

“In the league we have to add three [points] at a time, although sometimes it costs like last weekend against West Brom, and then we will see if it is enough to compete for the title.”
