Leicester convinced attacking star will join Tottenham, claims report
Leicester believe that winger Demarai Gray is on the verge of joining Tottenham, according to a report from journalist Duncan Castles.
The pacy winger is in the final year of his contract at the King Power, with speculation growing that that he’ll move on.
“I’m told that at Leciester they believe that he will be moving to Tottenham Hotspur,” Castles said.
“My understanding is that there is an interest from Tottenham, but that is not a guaranteed deal. He has interest from other Premier League clubs, there is also significant interest from overseas.
“A decision will be made as to where the best opportunity to develop his career is going forward once he’s in a position to properly talk to the clubs.”
The 24-year-old’s switch to Spurs would be considered a real coup. However, there is no mention whether it will be for bargain fee in January or on a free next summer.
After a bright start to his Foxes career, Gray has struggled for game time due to the impressive form of Harvey Barnes.
The latter recently broke into the senior England set-up after impressing alongside Jamie Vardy in Leicester’s attack.
Attacking overload at Spurs
However, Gray would also find it a struggle for game time at Spurs – if he does sign.
He would find himself competing with Gareth Bale, Steven Bergwijn, Heung-min Son and Lucas Moura for a wide berth.
Ryan Sessegnon is also out on loan, while Tottenham also have high hopes for youngster Jack Clarke.
It may be that Jose Mourinho sees Gray in a more central role. But only time will tell, as the clock winds down to the January window.
