Eberechi Eze remains a doubt for Crystal Palace after he was forced to withdraw from the England U21 squad with a minor injury last week.

Roy Hodgson will no doubt be concerned by the news as the new summer recruit has been one of the club’s best players in recent weeks, with a goal and an assist in the Premier League so far this season, but he will have to be assessed by Palace’s medical staff before the trip to Turf Moor to take on Burnley in the top flight on Monday night.

However the Palace boss will be buoyed by the fact that James Tomkins, Gary Cahill, Tyrick Mitchell and Joel Ward are all in contention to start after working their way back from injury.

Here at Football Fancast, we’ve given it our best shot at predicting Palace’s possible starting line-up, which sees the former England manager make four changes to the team that thumped Leeds United at Selhurst Park before the international break.

Hodgson has options at the back once again as Cahill, Mitchell and Tomkins are all available for selection, whilst Ward also returned to first-team training last week.

Asking Tomkins to start seems a step too far, so Cahill should slot into place in between the academy product and Cheikou Kouyate.

Whilst Nathaniel Clyne has deputised in Ward’s absence, the 31-year-old is expected to earn a recall, especially when you consider the fact the Eagles have so far failed to keep a clean sheet since the 1-0 win over Southampton at Selhurst Park at the start of the season, which means that Clyne will have to settle for a place on the bench.

With Eze awaiting further assessment, it surely isn’t worth the risk, so we’re backing Jeffrey Schlupp to regain his place in the starting line-up having been trusted for most Premier League games last season.

Michy Batshuayi could  also be in contention after bagging a brace against Switzerland during the international break with Jordan Ayew recently recovering from coronavirus, but the Ghana international will most likely lead the line alongside Wilfried Zaha up front at Turf Moor.

AND in other news, Crystal Palace should sign Jordan Amavi if Patrick van Aanholt leaves…
