Manchester United winger Daniel James is at a strange point in his career as he finds himself on the sidelines at Old Trafford.

Having made just five appearances in all competitions this year, James has hardly featured for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side so far this season.

This is someone who once scored six goals and supplied ten assists in 39 games for Swansea City, a player once tipped to become the next Gareth Bale, yet seems to be heading for the exit if recent reports are to be believed.

James, who reportedly earns wages worth £50,000-per-week, has seen just 179 minutes of action in the Premier League this season with Solskjaer preferring veteran Juan Mata in his place on the right wing in recent weeks instead.

Whilst he is still only 23, there are areas he urgently needs to improve, namely his finishing and defensive contributions, as he has struggled for consistency at a club where there was once no room for error.

Solskjaer can’t keep on giving mixed messages, as it’s not benefitting anyone having someone of James’ obvious potential left as an unused substitute on the bench, or as has been the case in recent weeks, axed from the squad altogether.

Maybe it’d be best for everyone involved if United cut their losses once and for all.

Valued at a mere £14.4m via Transfermarkt, the club’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward must look to cash in on the right winger before it’s too late, as his value will continue to fall the longer he stays on the bench.

Despite his woes, James has attracted interest from Premier League rivals Everton in recent weeks, whilst both Brighton and Leeds United were credited with an interest in the summer.

If Solskjaer continues to snub the outcast, then Woodward will have to consider sanctioning a sale, never mind a loan, sooner rather than later. He could then use the funds to try again to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund instead.

AND in other news, Manchester United striker Anthony Martial let Solskjaer down against West Brom…
