Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta admits that his side’s lack of goals is a “concern”, after they drew their fourth blank in five Premier League games on Sunday.

Arsenal’s last goal in the top flight came away at Manchester United at the start of November. Aside from that 1-0 win, though, the Gunners have lost three times and drawn the other match in their last five.

Paired with that poor run is a distinct lack of goals, with the 0-0 stalemate with Leeds on Sunday the fourth match in that sequence without a goal.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Spanish boss Arteta admitted he worries that his side face an “impossible” situation in making progress.

“The fact we need to score more goals, it’s a concern,” the Spanish boss said. “We need goals and a lot of goals to win football matches to be the top team that we want to be. Without that it is impossible.

“It doesn’t matter how we are defensively.

“It’s not the lack of attacking players we have or the attacking players we are putting on the pitch, but we need some moments where we have to make better decisions and be more ruthless.

“But it’s the most difficult thing in football and sometimes we go through these patches and we have to overcome. I have to help the players to overcome and do it as quickly as possible.”

But there is more to Arsenal‘s recent malaise in front of goal; the Gunners have not scored in open play since a 2-1 win over Sheffield United on October 4.

Meanwhile, they had just two shots on target at Elland Road, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang a subdued figure after being given a rare central role.

Arteta furious with Pepe actions

As Arteta pointed out, it is not a lack of attacking players that is hurting his side.

However, they will now be without winger Nicolas Pepe for three matches after his straight red card.

The Ivory Coast international clashed heads with Ezgjan Alioski, with the Leeds player falling to the floor.

Arteta gave a short shrift to questions about the incident.
